Gus Perea of Adams Bickel Associates, Inc. Tell us about yourself and your organization.

 

I am 55 years old and have been married to my best friend and life partner for 29 years.  Together we raised three wonderful children in Doylestown, PA.

 

I am the president of Adams Bickel Associates, Inc., a 40 million dollar a year General Construction Firm located in Collegeville, PA approximately 23 miles from center city Philadelphia.  Our company builds commercial, industrial, institutional and high end residential projects for public and private clients in the southeast Pennsylvania region. We employ approximately 75 associates, 28 in the office and 47 Craft Professionals in the field.

 

Our Corporate Mission Statement is: “We will lead our associates, our customers and our industry to a higher standard; develop long lasting relationships; and enrich all those whom we meet.

 

Our Vision Statement is; “To be the best of the best” (Dantotsu).

 

The core values that guide us to achieve our mission and realize our vision are:

How did you and your organization get introduced to Rapport Leadership International?

 

We were introduced to Rapport by a member of our General Contractor peer group.  We were dealing with some very typical issues that were a result of growth in our company and had been struggling with some “Team” performance and personal growth issues with some of our key associates, so a good friend that had used Rapport training to help his company through similar issues nominated us 6 years ago. The rest is history.

Tell us about your Rapport experience?

 

From the first time I experienced Rapport Training to my last exposure two weeks ago while On Team for Leadership Breakthrough Two, I felt the most powerful desire to leave all my blocks to leadership behind me and get out on the skinny branches - the danger zone circle - to take my leadership to the next level. I became and have continued to be, aware of the true impact a high performance team can have in my life and in the life of a company.

 

I felt challenged in Leadership Breakthrough One and through all my Rapport training, to look deep within me for that leadership strength and the skill I had. Even today, when I participate On Team or attend a Rapport Graduation, I get the same exuberant feeling that I felt when I passed my 2nd half of my final exam for Leadership Breakthrough One.

 

How has Rapport impacted you personally?

 

Rapport has become the most impactful training I have ever been through and I draw on it daily in my personal and business life. Rapport Leadership training gave me confidence, taught me to listen better and made me realize that not one member of my team can do it alone! It has also made me keenly aware of the power within each of us to focus and get it done!

 

How has Rapport impacted your business?

 

Rapport established a common bond and language amongst all of our associates who have experienced the training. It has created a culture where accountability is easy, respected and where the focus is getting the job done! Our team is very cohesive and understands the key role each and every member plays in fulfilling our mission and our vision!

 

What is the most surprising benefit you or your organization received from Rapport Training?

 

For some of our associates, this training was a turning point in their lives.  It was astonishing to see some of our young leadership potential blossom and six years later become key members of our leadership team. I also was very impressed with the impact training has had on our craft professionals that have chosen to go through this training. They truly must have been out of their comfort zone and they have come back really excited and committed to their newfound leadership skills.

 

How do you keep Rapport alive in your organization?

 

We live it every day!  From daily reminders to each other of the use of powerless words to the way we approach challenges with enthusiasm and focus. All associates who have been through the training know how to hold each other accountable and stay recharged by reminding each other of the elements of the Rapport training whenever we stumble. Another way we keep the training alive is by giving a send off to anyone who is going to Rapport for the first time or for additional training.

 

What class had the greatest impact on you and why?

 

Leadership Breakthrough One because it established the foundation I built on. Every aspect of Rapport training draws on the fundamentals we worked on at Leadership Breakthrough One.  Even five years later, I can draw back on some aspect of Leadership Breakthrough One training to get me through tough challenges.

 

When you face a challenge in your organization, what tools from the training do you call on first?

 

As a high performance team, we at Adams-Bickel Associates, Inc. cheer each other on, support each other and are there to do whatever it takes to get through difficult challenges. The one thing we all do well is getting focused and getting it done!
