Tell us about yourself and your organization.
I am the Chairman of the Board, President & CEO of CCS Income Trust. CCS Income Trust is an opportunity-rich growth trust that provides energy and environmental waste management services. Focused on disciplined growth, CCS maintains its long-term comprehensive commitment to environmental stewardship by continually setting - and raising - industry standards.
The Trust services the global energy and environment sectors through four major divisions; CCS Energy Services, CCS Energy Marketing, HAZCO Environmental & Decommissioning Services and Concord Well Servicing.
How did you and your organization get introduced to Rapport Leadership International?
Through Gordon Vivian our President at Concord Well Servicing who was introduced by an acquaintance.

Tell us about your Rapport experience?
It was very rewarding and one of the most challenging things I have ever done. Since I believe in leading by example, I took Leadership Breakthrough One right after my assistant recommended it. I then proceeded to make it available to everyone at the CCS companies and even sent my family and friends on it. I am now a Master Graduate and have begun the process of making this training available to teenagers through my charitable organization the Werklund Family Foundation. The foundation is headed by my daughter Deanna Werklund who is also very passionate about promoting the Rapport Leadership program and empowering our most valuable resource, our children. They are our future leaders and we believe in giving them the best tools possible.
How has Rapport impacted you personally?
It has made me even more aware of how some of my beliefs and behaviors have been impacting my life. It has made me more self-aware and helped me to be less complacent as a leader. In a lot of ways my life has been a constant journey of always seeking new levels of self-awareness, empathy, emotional intelligence and leadership abilities. This training fell in line with that journey.
My children also benefited greatly from this training and I have seen some amazing transformations in their lives.
How has Rapport impacted your business?
I believe that the Rapport training has had an empowering, motivational effect on our people which has lead to greater teamwork, and higher productivity. Also, I have had many comments about the loyalty that this program inspires in our staff. As they put it, “I want to work for a company who cares enough about me to pay to send me to this type of training.”
What is the most surprising benefit you or your organization received from Rapport Training?
Empowerment. It has been amazing to watch the transformation in some people’s lives. The happiness, empowerment and sense of purpose is so much more evident in some of our people after the training. Happy, empowered employees are productive employees. We have also had a lot of feedback on how this training has greatly affected their personal lives, and this is extremely rewarding to me.
How do you keep Rapport alive in your organization?
We offer training to every member of our organization at all levels and encourage managers to take the lead. We offer Power Communication and Leadership Breakthrough One classes here in Calgary, the first of their kind. We encourage our staff to embrace leadership and learning as a way of life - it’s part of our culture.
What class had the greatest impact on you and why?
Each has its own nuggets that I felt were eye openers, and each class is beneficial in its own way. The cumulative effect of all three in my opinion is better than any individual class.
When you face a challenge in your organization, what tools from the training do you call on first?
Cause and Effect has been a tool we use here on a regular basis. Remaining in Cause rather than falling into Effect has been key to navigating tough situations.
