MEET ALLEN KESSLER: FIRST EVER RAPPORT CERTIFIED SPECIALIST 1
This past September Rapport launched its Rapport Certified Specialist 1 course to develop Master Graduates as internal experts and resources of Rapport’s leadership training and organizational models. Allen Kessler of Spectra Energy was the very first graduate of this course.
Tell us about yourself and your Organization
I am a Rapport Master Graduate, Eagle Quest graduate, and I have completed Leadership Performance Coaching. Since being nominated to Leadership Breakthrough One (LB1), my life and personal leadership skills have been taken to the next level several times. Each time I go out on the skinny branches, I learn even more. My wife, Kathryn, is also a Rapport Master Graduate; my son Justin has graduated LB1, and my son Tim is a Teen Leadership Breakthrough graduate.
I am a maintenance Planning Team Leader for Spectra Energy at mile 285 of the Alaska Highway in North Eastern British Columbia, Canada. I have an amazing team that lives the Rapport values. Spectra Energy gathers, processes, and transmits natural gas better than anyone in the world. Being part of a company that is so highly regarded is a privilege.
Why did you decide to complete the Rapport Certified Specialist 1 (RCS1) training?
Seeing the benefits of Rapport at home and at work ignited my passion for inspiring and helping others to enhance their personal leadership skills and bring excellence to their personal and professional lives.
How has the RCS1 course affected your business?
Getting the functional teams into alignment and focused on a common vision is incredibly powerful. This accomplishment has increased compliance to the weekly maintenance schedule by 300%. The outcome is that employees trust each other and communicate with each other. They clearly know their roles, are committed to taking action, hold each other accountable, and attain sustainable and breakthrough results.
How has the RCS1 course affected you personally?
I have seen many places I could not reach from my skinny branches. I realized that RSC1 is like springtime and I am able to use my skills, energy, and passion, and grow those branches to my specific focuses. Each time I facilitate Rapport training at Spectra Energy and use my existing leadership skills, I learn and grow. This growth allows me to look inward, dig deep, and keep moving to the next level.
What was your biggest take away from this course?
I am the leader I have been waiting for! Prior to the Rapport training, I did not recognize all of the opportunities for growth and alignment that were around me every day. I now use those opportunities and challenges to create alignment that did not exist before.
How do you keep Rapport alive in your organization?
I have a team of Rapport graduates including many who will be graduates soon, and I actively use my leadership tools and focus on alignment. We celebrate the accomplishments of our milestones and learn from our failures. We always strive to attain our common vision in all that we do.
